About Diirt

Diirt is a creative duo, Mara Whitehead and Raleigh Gambino, who operate commercial photography and video for the rafting world and outdoor adventure space and more. Coming from river guiding and trip leading background. We are excited to offer personalized rafting excursions across the southwest with Usal.

Objective

This an adventurous whitewater rafting experience on one of the best whitewater stretches in the country. Each member will be active participants of the raft, that includes frequent paddling for the entire day. We will begin with a whitewater safety orientation and swiftly depart to start making river miles. We start with Class I rapids and end with Class IV rapids. We will be on the river for majority of the day.

Recommended to anyone looking to get wet, wild and weird.

Not recommended to anyone who is afraid of whitewater and/or does not know how to swim.

Itinerary

  • Friday: Participants will arrive Friday evening at BLM Camping location at 6pm or later. We will have a few camp activities/games, and hang out through the evening.

  • Saturday: Instructors will wake up and serve breakfast and coffee at 8am. Crew will break down camp, enjoy breakfast and coffee and drive (down the road) to the put-in at 9am. Safety orientation starts as final boat preparations get complete and Crew is outfitted with gear.

  • Rafting begins with class I-III. Around 1:00pm we will pull over and lunch will be prepped and enjoyed. Rafting will resume about 30-45 minutes into lunch where Class III and Class IV rapids continue.


    • We will take out after a hefty and fun section of whitewater and participants will be shuttled back to their cars and end the day. Expected end time is 5-6pm.

    Trail Information

    We will paddle raft 20 miles of the Lower Kern going to Class IV rapids.

    What to bring

    • Water footwear! i.e. Chacos, Bedrocks, Tevas, Keens or any shoe you feel comfortable getting wet. (NO flip flops))
    • Water wear: polyester top and athletic shorts/swim trunks.
    • Polyester top layer (in case weather is not favorable)
    • Water bottle
    • Optional: rain jacket and rain pants (to help stay dry if weather is not favorable)
    • Energy to paddle!
