About Francis River

Francis River (@francis_river) is a community organizer, farmer, and educator. His work is rooted in building community and sharing in nature. Over the last decade he has worked on large scale organic market farms, small urban regenerative farms, school and community gardens, greenhouse and hydroponic operations, as well as growing food and teaching gardening classes for organizations supporting the unhoused community. Currently, Francis works with Ave 33 Farm and is a full-time student studying soil science and regenerative ecology.

Ave 33 Farm is an urban farm that grows food for the community and supports the Los Angeles Leadership High School garden, as well as other local mutual aid organizations. Founded by Eric Tomassini in 2018, the farm offers education programs and produce distribution, and accepts EBT. Located in Lincoln Heights, Ave 33 Farm serves 140 families weekly with fresh produce.

Objective

Participants will learn the basics of starting and maintaining a organic and regenerative farm/ garden. Students will learn soil preparation, planting, plant nutrients, composting and vermicomposting, irrigation systems, and holistic practices.

*All proceeds will go towards the Los Angeles Leadership High School garden programs*

Following, participants will learn soil preparation, nutrients, and planting while also learning appropriate tools and techniques.
