About Joshua Jackson

Josh Jackson is a writer, photographer, and a prominent advocate for public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). As a conservationist, he is dedicated to showcasing the remarkable diversity, wildlife, and ecosystems these landscapes harbor. Through his evocative Forgotten Lands project, Josh employs immersive storytelling and striking visual narratives to motivate and empower audiences to explore and conserve America’s most vulnerable and lesser-known public territories

Objective

Embark on a captivating journey through the Carrizo Plain National Monument, a vast expanse of BLM-managed public land. Delve into the significance of this area, renowned for its stunning wildflower displays, vast native grasslands, and rich cultural heritage.

Day 1: Exploring Nature's Splendor

Witness the breathtaking beauty of the Carrizo Plain as we marvel at its vibrant wildflowers and sweeping grasslands. Keep an eye out for endangered species like the San Joaquin Kit Fox and enjoy sightings of Tule Elk and Pronghorn Antelope.

Day 2: Unveiling Cultural and Natural Wonders

Embark on a guided tour of the sacred rock art at Painted Rock and learn about the indigenous Emigdiano Chumash people who have inhabited this land for centuries. Visit Soda Lake, a vital stopover for migratory birds along the Pacific Flyway, and witness the diverse avian species that grace its shores. Binoculars included.

Join us for an unforgettable journey into the heart of California's natural and cultural heritage at the Carrizo Plain National Monument.

Late Afternoon: Enjoy a sunset hike through the Temblor Range, where we’ll uncover the extraordinary conditions that give rise to the superbloom phenomenon.

Evening: Return to camp for dinner, followed by an evening of storytelling around the campfire.
