About Zou Chen

Zou Chen (@uglythings_etal) is a ceramic artist and nature appreciator. Since relocating to LosAngeles, Zou has drawn inspiration from the city's breathtaking landscapes and geological wonders. On her hiking adventures through the Santa Monica and San Gabriel Mountains, she forages for wild clay to adorn the ceramic vessels, infusing the pieces with the essence of the land sculpted by nature over millions of years.

Objective

Learn to create ceramic bowls, cups, and vases using the coil technique in the artist’s downtown studio. This workshop uniquely incorporates wild clay slip foraged from LA's surrounding mountains and beaches for decoration. Participants will learn to identify, process, and use wild clay to decorate their vessels, which they can take home after firing.

What's included

  • Coil technique for creating various vessels.
  • Decorate the vessel with wild clay slip and underglaze.
  • Finished pieces fired and ready for pick-up in 2-3 weeks.
